Data Protection

The Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) aims to protect the privacy of the individual in relation to the personal information organisations may hold about them.

It establishes key principles that govern the collection, use and handling of personal information and provides individuals with important rights.

The University administers its obligations under the DPA in accordance with its Data Protection Policy.  You may also find the short guidance document on "Providing and Receiving Personal Data" useful.

Please contact the University's Information Compliance Unit for further information.

Note that the Data Protection Act 1998 will be replaced by the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) from 25 May 2018.  Click here for further information.
