  • ATAR (or equivalent) minimum ranking of at least 86 (a higher ranking will be required for certain degree programmes). Please note that the grades required vary depending on the programme of study. Further guidance on the entry requirements for each degree programme can be found in the Undergraduate Coursefinder.

Postgraduate entry requirements

Entry to graduate diploma or taught masters programmes at Queen's University Belfast usually requires either a UK upper second-class (2:1) or a lower second-class (2:2) undergraduate degree. For most courses, your major subject or content of your Bachelor's degree may also be considered. Please check the Postgraduate Course Finder for exact entry requirements.

The comparable Australian qualifications are as follows:

UK Upper Second-Class Honours (2:1)

A Bachelor Honours degree (4 years) awarded by a recognised Australian university with ‘second class, upper division’, often called division A or division 1.

Applicants with a three-year Bachelor degree from a recognised Australian university will also be considered if they have achieved an overall 'Distinction' grade.

UK Lower Second-Class Honours (2:2)

A Bachelor Honours degree (4 years) awarded by a recognised Australian university with ‘second class, lower division’, often called division B or division 2.

Applicants with a three-year Bachelor degree from a recognised Australian university will also be considered if they have achieved an overall 'Credit' grade.

If you are interested in Computing, Finance and Management courses, but do not meet the entry requirements, you may wish to consider a a pre-masters Graduate Diploma offered by INTO Queen's.

We have expertise on a wide range of qualifications from around the world and will be able to assess the comparability of your qualification/s to the UK entry requirement. When submitting your application, please ensure that you upload copies of official transcripts for completed programmes as well as those currently in progress. Degree award certificates for programmes already complete should also be provided.

Students interested in undertaking a PhD at Queen’s University need good grades in their Bachelor and Masters degree programmes awarded by a recognised university, in addition to a strong research proposal.

Borderline Cases

We will consider students who have completed their degree with lower grades than those outlined in their offer letter.

Sometimes, it may be possible to exercise flexibility in the case of applicants who have fallen slightly short of the target grade when final results are known. In these cases, the decision will be at the discretion of the Academic Selector.

You should therefore wait until your degree has been completed and forward the final version of your official transcript and Bachelor degree award Certificates as soon as they become available.  Unfortunately we cannot advise you until your degree is fully completed.

English language requirements

Applicants will normally need to demonstrate a level of English equivalent to 6.5 IELTS or 90 TOEFL IBT (Internet based test). However, some degree programmes have higher or lower requirements (please check individual programme requirements in the relevant undergraduate or postgraduate University Coursefinder.
