The QUOTE hub, in association with the School of Law’s Human Rights Centre, and the Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security & Justice would like to invite you to attend a lunchtime seminar at the Law School’s Moot Court on Friday 9 June 2017.

Our guest speaker is Ms Farina So from the Documentation Center of Cambodia (DC-Cam).

Farina is visiting Queen’s as part of her work on the ‘Restoring Cultural Property and Communities After Conflict’ project led by Dr Robin Hickey.

She is particularly well known for her work on the Cham Oral History Project at DC-Cam and believes that this is a vitally important tool for building a more complete history of Democratic Kampuchea (DK) and for developing Cham scholarship. Her project began in 2005 to engage the Cham community throughout the Khmer Rouge tribunal and in particular to give voice to marginalised groups including women and those from Cham and other ethnic minorities.

Farina will be joined on the panel by Dr Anna Bryson, a founding member of QUOTE. She will begin with an overview of her research and advocacy work on the Oral History Archive proposed under the terms of the Stormont House Agreement. The points of contrast with the Cambodian project will then be highlighted.

Finally, Gillian McNaul from the QUB Law Human Rights Centre will pick up the theme of researching marginalised groups, noting methodological and ethical dilemmas that have arisen in the course of her work with female prisoners.

For further information please contact Dr Anna Bryson at: a.bryson@qub.ac.uk
