Undergraduate Scholarships 2017

We are delighted to offer the undergraduate Scholarships Plus award scheme for 2017 entry for students from England, Scotland, Wales, Channel Islands and Isle of Man.

These awards offer two options to suit your needs:

  • Option one: A tuition fee scholarship combined with accommodation and lifestyle benefits
  • Option two: A tuition fee only scholarship

The scholarship award applies to each year of study subject to the following eligibility criteria:

  1. Students who make Queen’s University their Firm Acceptance choice will be contacted in June 2017 and asked to choose the scholarship option preference that suits their needs.
  2. Eligible students* who achieve AAB at A-Level, or the equivalent in other qualifications (as determined by the Admissions and Access Service), will qualify for a band 1 scholarship. Those who achieve ABB at A-Level or the equivalent in other qualifications will qualify for band 2, and those who satisfy the conditions of their offer (if lower) will qualify for band 3.

There is no application process for these scholarships ie. students who meet the criteria will be identified automatically.

Successful students will receive the following Undergraduate Scholarships Plus benefits

  • Three flights home for each year of study1
  • Free off-peak Queen’s Sport membership for each year of study2
  • Free movie pass at the QFT for each year of study3
  • Free upgrade to ensuite accommodation in Elms Village in first year4
  • Free Bedding and Kitchen Pack at Elms Village in first year
  • Free shipping of luggage (up to 40kg) in first year5

 

Notes 

  1. A cash amount of £280 will be paid in October each year towards the cost of 3 flights home.
  2. Free off peak Queen’s Sport student membership valid for 9 months will be issued in October each year.
  3. A free movie pass for Queen’s Film Theatre will be issued in October each year and will entitle the bearer to 27 free admissions.
  4. Free upgrade to ensuite room in Elms Village applies for the full term of the 38 week contract (excludes Premium Ensuite rooms).
  5. A cash amount of £61 based on Royal Mail Parcelforce 40KG rate will be paid in October of the first year of study towards the cost for luggage shipping.

Eligibility criteria

  1. Students must be from England, Scotland, Wales, Channel Islands or Isle of Man and paying tuition fees of £9,000.
  2. Students must reply through UCAS making Queen's University their Firm Acceptance choice and enrol in 2017.
  3. Scholarships exclude students applying for Medicine and Dentistry, and to the Queen’s colleges at Stranmillis and St. Mary’s.
  4. Scholarships exclude students offered a place during UCAS Clearing and Adjustment.
  5. Students must achieve a minimum of A, A, B grades at A-level or equivalent in other qualifications (as determined by the Admissions and Access Service) to qualify for a band 1 scholarship.
  6. Students must achieve a minimum of A, B, B grades at A-level or equivalent in other qualifications (as determined by the Admissions and Access Service) to qualify for a band 2 scholarship.
  7. Students must satisfy the conditions specified in their offer to qualify for a band 3 scholarship.
  8. Only one of the above scholarships will be awarded to any individual student.
  9. Scholarships Plus benefits may be subject to change for an equivalent offer and recipients must continue to meet the eligibility criteria in point one above to receive offers each year.
  10. Students will be asked to choose their preferred option by email in June 2017 and no switching between options will be allowed at any stage.
  11. Please note that Queen's, like most comparable Universities and as stated in our Prospectus and Admissions Policy, makes offers in terms of grades rather than UCAS tariff points.
