If you love travelling, you’ll be delighted to know that Queen’s offers numerous international careers trips that can give your CV the edge. I’ve just got back from a once-in-a-lifetime trip to New York and Washington DC for the Global Leadership Programme where we had meetings with professionals working with intelligent automation, the project theme. Here’s the trip in pictures.
We couldn’t go to America without meeting everyone!
So we knew how to blog all about the trip, we had a social media session with Jason Harvey – thanks @jason_66
Thanks @jason_66 from @go_fyt for all your tips on building our social media for Queen's trip to the USA! #lovequb #qglp18 #leadingthewaytotheusa
For an insight into what to expect, we met with diplomats at the US Consulate in Belfast.
Happy trails to 32 @QUBelfast students headed across the pond this week on Queens Global Leadership Program.
Before leaving, we met an event at Eagle Labs, Ormeau Baths – a co-working space and tech community - where we met the students who went in previous years to Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong.
Excited for networking at tonight's event at Eagle Labs at @ormeaubaths #qubglp18 #futureofwork
Thank you so much @Yotel_NYC hosting QUB and giving us a tour of your hotel and facilities! Amazing experience to hear first hand about how Intelligent Automation is a core part of your business. Thank you! #qub #qglp18 @QUBelfast @QUBCareers
Here we met Sam Davis – a onetime staffer for Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, as well as PR Manager for Maria Sharapova and Novak Djokovic.
At this luxury goods drinks brand, we had a lavish drinks reception (yes, they were all non-alcoholic cocktails!)
Huge thanks to @MoetUSA for hosting our group. An amazing experience to learn about the heritage of the brand and everything you're doing. #qglp18 #lovequb @QUBelfast
Here we had a meeting with Twitter’s Senior Sales Manager, NI native, Dennis Bree.
You've got to tweet when you're at Twitter
Three @EnglishatQUB students/grads at @twitter in NYC for #qubglp18 as part of @QUBelfast Development Weeks - amazing experience, follow our exploits along with 25 other students! @jessiehaycox @pfmoor #qubglp18 @QUBCareers @qubphonetics #englishgrads #futureofwork
A few student photos of our visit to @Twitter in NYC today for the #QGLP18. Heard fascinating insights from @dennisbree who very generously gave up his time to speak with us. @QUBelfast #GlobalLeaders #AI #FutureofWork
Thanks to @KPMG_US and @FitzpatrickNYC for hosting #qubglp18 - it was great to hear from everyone and find out more for projects on intelligent automation. Thank you again!
We got the train to DC where we met the chief of staff, Mitchell Rivard, who works for Congressman Dan Kildee on Capitol Hill.
Huge thanks to @mitchellrivard today for hosting us as part of the #QGLP18 programme on Capitol Hill. @dankildee has a very passionate CoS that's for sure!
Our last visit was a cracker – a meeting with the NI Bureau who represent Northern Ireland’s interests globally.
Thankyou to Elizabeth and Richard for hosting us for the last meeting of our trip at the NI Bureau today! @QUBelfast @QUBCareers #qglp18
You couldn’t go Times Square and not do a Snapchat story!
Here’s the Flatiron Building – don’t know whether Godzilla or Spider-Man were there though!
A walk over to Manhattan from Brooklyn Bridge
If you ever go to the US, you must go to Chipotle. I went three times and it may even be nicer than Boojum (if that is possible!)
Definitely worth the short ferry to Staten Island to see the Statue of Liberty.
A huge feed of breakfast at American Diner Big Daddies!
A group visit up to one of New York’s tallest buildings – the Rockefeller Center.
A moving visit to the 9/11 memorial of the Twin Towers.
Unfortunately, we didn’t see Trump but here is his house anyway!
Here we are at Lincoln Memorial – the site of Martin Luther King’s I Have a Dream speech.
We did a walking tour of the city taking us to the Washington Memorial in memory of George Washington.
To finish an amazing trip, a walk up the National Mall to the steps of Capitol Hill where Presidents are inaugurated.
English with Linguistics | 2nd year | Huddersfield, England
I am 19 year old Yorkshire lad, born and bred but now studying English with Linguistics at Queen's. I decided to come to over to Northern Ireland after many holidays visiting family across the country. I am part of the university politics society and the debating society. This semester I'm also doing a French language course - wish me luck! I'm a keen swimmer which is certainly needed when this country has so much good food to offer!
