General description of research on brown trout population genetics:
Population genetics of anadromous brown trout and its application to sustainable management of trout fishery in the coastal areas of Poland (Baltic Sea) are the main fields of interest. Future projects will concern genetic effect of stocking on the wild populations.

Study #1
Researcher: Ewa Wlodarczyk (PhD student), Roman Wenne (supervisor)
Source of project funding: PhD grant.
Topic: Genetic population structure, gene diversity and gene flow.
Objective: To determine the genetic structure of anadromous brown trout populations spawning in Polish rivers on the coast of Baltic Sea.
Design: Genetic structure and composition of different spawning populations are studied, based on cross-sectional sampling scheme from six Polish rivers.
Methodology: MtDNA, scnDNA heteroduplex analysis.
Trout population: Anadromous trout populations.
Origin of samples: Poland, Baltic Sea Basin.
Status: Started in the fall of 1996; approx. date of finishing up: mid-2000.

Source of project funding: In house.
Topic: Genetic population structure, gene diversity and gene flow.
Objective: To identify and estimate genetic relationships among brown trout populations spawning in Polish rivers.
Design: Genetic structure and composition of different spawning populations are studied, based on cross-sectional sampling scheme from six Polish rivers.
Methodology: Microsatellites.
Trout population: Anadromous trout populations.
Origin of samples: Poland, Baltic Sea Basin.
Status: Ongoing.
