| General description of research on brown trout population
genetics: |
Major aim of our research is to
study the genetic variability present in brown trout populations of Turkey. Samples are
collected from three different geographic regions of Turkey: (1)
Western Meditterrenean Coast (many populations have been lost in the last 5 years), (2) Central Anatolian Lake (population of the lake is claimed to be
an endemic one), (3) Eastern Black Sea Coast (individuals are
from a river which also hosts anadroumous population).
Presence of unique alleles/
haplotypes are searched and heterozygosity levels of the population have been determined
to develop conservation strategies for Turkish brown trout populations. Non of these
populations received fish from hatcheries.
Protein electrophoresis, mtDNA PCR-RFLP are the tools used in our
studies. |
