| General description of research on
brown trout population genetics: |
| A major research topic of
our laboratory is the conservation and management of native brown trout populations. In
particular, we study the population structure of Spanish brown trout populations, the
distribution of genetic variation within and between populations and the effects of
hatchery-outplants on those populations. Another important topic is the phylogeography of
brown trout since we depend on correct identification of the autochthonous form for the
study of interactions between introduced and native trout. Protein electrophoresis is
the major molecular tool employed in these studies. MtDNA D-LOOP sequencing has been
started recently. |
