Reading Centre Information

CARF has a network of Reading Centres located in Belfast at the Queen's University Belfast, in London at Moorfield's Eye Hospital and in Liverpool at St Paul's Eye Unit in the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. CARF collects Ophthalmology images including colour fundus images, fluorescein angiograms, indocyanine green (ICG) angiograms, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scans and autofluorescence images from the eye which can be viewed at each of the Reading Centres for grading and the resultant grading data is recorded using grading forms hosted by CARF.

CARF also organises regular training events for the Reading Centres and there are tri-annual concordance meetings for our studies.

Another significant feature of our network is the automatic quality assurance process. Graders are presented with unmarked and masked Quality Assurance gradings and the data is collected under normal grading circumstances. The data is analysed by CARF and our data management centre for both quality assurance and training purposes.
