WOMEN MEMBERS OF DÁIL ÉIREANN

This page lists all current (as at March 2011) women members of the 31st Dáil Éireann, elected in February 2011. The Dáil has 166 TDs (Teachtaí Dála), elected by PR-STV for a maximum five-year term. There are currently forty-three parliamentary constituencies which depending on size return between three and five elected representatives. Twenty five women TDs were returned in the 2011 elections, an increase of three on 2007. The elections saw significant changes with Fianna Fáil failing to return any women, while Fine Gael more than doubled their female representation (Fine Gael women TDs increased from five in 2007 to eleven in 2011). The 2011 elections saw six women TDs retire including some longserving women such as Fianna Fáil's Mary Wallace and Beverley Flynn, Labour's Liz McManus and the Mary Harney from the Progressive Democrats. Fourteen new women TDs were elected. Table 2 shows how many women each party has among its deputies with the overall percentage of women elected in 2011 at just 15%. A separate page lists all former women TDs.
