WOMEN MEMBERS OF SEANAD ÉIREANN The present Seanad, established in 1937, has sixty elected and nominated members (women members of the Senate of the Free State and other former women senators are listed here.) Eleven are nominated by the Taoiseach, six are elected by graduates of the National University of Ireland and University of Dublin, and forty-three are elected by vocational panels. Senators’ terms coincide with those of members of the Dáil, and they are re-appointed or replaced after each Dáil election, within ninety days of dissolution. Table 1 shows the current women senators of the 23rd Seanad (accurate as at August 2008). Table 2 gives a gender breakdown of the current Senate. Click here for a printable version of this page.
