WOMEN MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF LORDS

Listed in Table 1 are all 112 women members of the House of Lords, sorted by party group (Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrat, and Cross-Bencher). The four women who were among the 92 hereditary peers chosen to remain in the House after the passage of the House of Lords Act in November 1999 are marked with . The expulsion of most hereditary peers in 1999 resulted in a slight improvement in the gender balance, as the hereditary peers were overwhelmingly male. As of March 2003 women form 17 per cent of the total 652 temporal members of the Lords; see Table 2 for a gender breakdown by party, and see this page for former women members of the Lords.
