Kate Hollett:
Emotional connection and communication has always been a constant force driving my work: connection and the human condition. Massive change and technological evolution have dramatically changed the way we relate to one another, how we interact in time and space. Utilizing multi media, my work uses abstract words and meaning to create a unique visual language and social sculpture with the energy of time (memory), and space.
My work involves working with words and visual elements to motivate, cause an emotional reaction, direct decision, inform, and communicate: a form often referred to as visual language. Robert Horn (2001) describes visual language as “the tight integration of words and visual elements and as having characteristics that distinguish it from natural languages as a separate communication tool.” I was drawn to the depth of creating visual work that was layered with conscious and subconscious feeling and meaning that could only be achieved by using multi media, visual elements and words.
