Description

For this project, Dorothy Cullan will be interviewed by CDEN director Maruška Svašek on blind people’s experiences of risk and risk related feelings, in particular related to walking through the city. The interview will be put on the CDEN website and analysed by ethnomusicology students participating in the Balinese Gamelan Ensemble, headed by Ethnomusicology lecturer Marina Roseman.

26th October
Marina Roseman will introduce the students to the interview material and to the process of group improvisation on their gamelan instruments. Listing some of the interview moments and analysing the interview transcription, they will pull out experiences and feelings that might conceivably be musically expressed. They  will practice how to use loudness/softness, richer textures and thinner textures, melodies, etc. in their musical translation.

2 November
Dorothy Cullan and her friends will attend the performance of the piece, give feed back to the performers and discuss awareness issues. Olive Rodgers (RNIB) will organise transportation and will also be asked to give feedback to the project.
