Remarkable activity enhancement of ball-milled catalysts


Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) of nitrogen oxides (NOx) by hydrocarbons (HC) has received significant attention over the past two decades.

Ag-based systems supported on Al2O3 are amongst the most active and selective for the SCR reaction. However, it is difficult to achieve very high activity at low temperatures unless hydrogen is used to enhance the activity.

For the first time we have shown that very high activity can be achieved without the addition of hydrogen by using ball-milling during the catalyst preparation.




After calcination, high resolution transmission electron microscopy shows that the silver is veyr well dispersed with an average particle size of about 1.6 nm.
