The Tumour Angiogenesis Group (TAG), based in the Thoracic Surgical Unit, Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast and Departments of Surgery, Immunobiology and Pathology, Queen's University of Belfast. We were established in August 2000 as a means of channelling research efforts in the field of Tumour
Angiogenesis from the disciplines of surgery, immunology and pathology.

Team Members

James A. McGuigan FRCS(Ed) - Team Leader.
Jim is the Senior Consultant Surgeon in the Thoracic Surgical Unit of the Royal Victoria Hospital. He is the Lead Cancer Physician in the Royal and has research interests in the fields of Surgical
Oncology (both Clinical and Basic Science) and Thoracic Trauma.

Gary M. Spence BSc FRCS(I) - Research Fellow.
Gary is a Specialist Registrar in General Surgery. He is in his 2nd year of full time research, investigating the role of Vascular
Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) in Gastroesophageal Cancer.

Ian McAllister MRCS(Eng) - Research Fellow.
Ian is currently in his 1st year of full time research, investigating the role of Platelet Activation in the progression of tumour
angiogenesis in patients with Gastroesophageal Cancer.

Immunology
Dr. Marilyn A. Armstrong PhD - is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Microbiology and Immunobiology , Queen's University, Belfast. Her research interests include cytokine expression and cell signalling in multiple sclerosis and cardiac surgery.
