Mellon Centre for Migration Studies

The Mellon Centre for Migration Studies is located at the Ulster American Folk Park, outside Omagh. The Centre (MCMS) was established in its present form in 1998, and comprises three main elements – the Library, the Irish Emigration Database and a teaching and research programme.

 

 

24th Ulster-American Heritage Symposium

It is with great pleasure that we announce the 24th meeting of the Ulster-American Heritage Symposium will be hosted by the Mellon Centre for Migration Studies at the Ulster American Folk park, Omagh, Co. Tyrone June 19-22, 2024.

The Symposium is co-sponsored by the Mellon Centre for Migration Studies, located at the Ulster-American Folk Park in Omagh, Northern Ireland. Part of the Libraries Ni Heritage service, it is the primary project of the Scotch-Irish Trust of Ulster. The Symposium has been closely associated with the Ulster-American Folk Park since it met for the first time in 1976 and with the Mellon Centre since 1996.

The Irish Emigration Database (IED)

The Irish Emigration Database is a computerised collection of primary source documents on Irish emigration to North America (USA and Canada) in the 18th and 19th centuries. It contains a variety of original material including emigrant letters, newspaper articles, shipping advertisements, shipping news, passenger lists, official government reports, family papers, births deaths and marriages and extracts from books and periodicals.
