Dr B.Lambkin and Dr P.Fitzgerald give talk in Lisburn on Saturday 21 February 2009
Lisburn City Library on Saturday 21st February 2009 hosted “Migration In Irish History”, sponsored by Rondo, Library and Education Suppliers. The day-long event commenced at 11.30am with a workshop introducing participants to the Irish Emigration Database (IED), a developing online resource to which SEELB libraries have access. The database contains information relevant to historians , teachers, students and genealogists regarding all aspects of emigration to North America ( USA and Canada) from the early 1700s to the 1930s. It includes ships’ passenger lists, emigrant letters and diaries, family papers and official reports.
The afternoon programme began at 1.30pm and finished at 4.00pm. and included presentations by Brian Lambkin and Patrick Fitzgerald, who discussed migration in Irish history, while Fintan Vallely explored songs of emigration.
