Presentation of Scotch Irish Trust merit awards

On Saturday 31 January 2009 Sir Peter Froggatt will give the eighth annual MSSc in Irish Migration Studies Reunion Lecture at the Centre for Migration Studies at the Ulster American Folk Park. Sir Peter Froggatt has written extensively on the history of medicine in Ireland, including the response of the medical profession to the Great Famine in The Hungry Stream (Crawford 1997). His chapter in Medicine, Disease and the State in Ireland, 1650-1940 (Jones and Malcolm, Cork University Press, 1999) deals with the ‘Preparatory’ Medical Schools of the Royal Belfast Academical Institution and the Catholic University of Ireland, 1835-1909. The relatively late development of such institutions in Ireland helps account for the surprisingly large numbers of medical emigrants to Britain, especially Glasgow and Edinburgh, and further afield . Following the lecture, Sir Peter Froggatt (Chairman of the Scotch-Irish Trust of Ulster) will be invited to present the Trust’s awards to students who have excelled during the past academic year. The event will conclude with a buffet lunch in the Folk Park Café.

Price: Stg£12.00 (includes tea/coffee, lecture, finger buffet lunch with wine/soft drink)
