Sending Out Ireland's PoorDr Gerry Moran, author of Sending Out Ireland’s Poor: Assisted Emigration to North America in the Nineteenth Century (Dublin, 2004) will focus in this lecture upon the years of the Great Famine (1845-51) and the role of the Poor Law Unions in assisting large numbers of paupers to cross the Atlantic. Dr Moran will include evidence drawn from workhouses within Co. Tyrone.
