Admission is via the Queen’s University Admissions Office, using online application.

Entrance Qualifications:

Applicants must have a recognised primary Degree in nursing, midwifery, allied health, social care, or related disciplines.

They shall normally hold a relevant primary Degree at 2:2 classification or above or equivalent. In line with the University’s RPL procedures, candidates who do not meet the above academic requirements will be considered on an individual basis where there is evidence of experience in a relevant area.

Additional Information for International Students:

Applicants whose first language is not English are normally required to have an IELTS score of 6.5 or a TOEFL score of 575 (paper based) or 90 (internet-based); evidence of these qualifications must be presented before an offer of admission is issued.

International applicants who do not hold one of these qualifications may be able to access the International Nursing Students English Preparation Course at INTO; a score of 65% in the INTO English Language Exit Test is required prior to admission.

Student progress, review and support procedures

Full- and part-time routes
Full-time students must normally complete the PG Diploma within one calendar year of first registration. Full-time students cannot undertake more than 120 credits of taught modules per academic year.

Part-time students must normally complete the PG Diploma within two years of first registration. A part-time student may not complete the PG Diploma within one year of the date of first registration and cannot undertake more than 60 credits of taught modules per academic year. Part-time students would normally take 60 taught credits in years 1 and 2. The timetabling of optional and compulsory modules accommodates this pattern of delivery and ensures that students have access to appropriate modules in both semesters.

Programme Structure, Levels, Modules and Credits

• To qualify for the Postgraduate Diploma in Caring for Children and Young People with Complex Health Needs students must take and pass modules worth a total of 120 CATS points.

• The PG Diploma consists of taught modules of study. Students must successfully take and pass a total of seven to nine taught modules (120 CATS points), including: two compulsory cross-programme modules, two compulsory programme-specific modules; one compulsory research module and two to four optional modules that may be selected either from the cross programme modules or programme-specific modules.

Examinations

• Students must pass 120 CATS points of taught modules, including all compulsory modules on the programme, to be eligible for the award of a Postgraduate Diploma in Caring for Children and Young People with Complex Health Needs.

• The pass mark for all taught modules is 50%.

• Students who fail one or more taught modules are permitted one further attempt to pass at the next available opportunity for a maximum mark of 50%.

• The degree will be classified in accordance with the University General Regulations, Study Regulations, Mark Scales.

• Candidates who pass all the taught modules, including all compulsory modules, but who fail to achieve a mark of at least 50% in the dissertation shall be eligible for the award of Postgraduate Diploma in Caring for Children and Young People with Complex Health Needs.

• Candidates who pass all the taught modules, including all compulsory modules, but who fail to submit a dissertation shall be eligible for the award of Postgraduate Diploma in Caring for Children and Young People with Complex Health Needs.
