Criteria for Admissions

Entry is open to applicants who have successfully completed the Queen's University Belfast BSc Architecture or a similar qualification from an approved RIBA/ARB Part I course in a recognised UK institution. Applicants must have also successfully completed (i) the Queen's University Belfast BArch or MArch or (ii) any other approved RIBA Part II course in a recognised UK institution. Applicants from other institutions must normally be able to demonstrate that they have taken and successfully completed
Professional Studies elements within their RIBA/ARB Part I and Part II courses to the satisfaction of the University including
the submission of PSA monitored PEDR sheets for the two periods of practical experience . Professional experience at Part III
level normally required within UK jurisdiction. Subject to PSA review in accordance with the RIBA Practical Experience
Requirements.

For the successful completion of this programme to have the status of Part III, international applicants must demonstrate through the ARB Examination for Equivalence to Prescribed Qualifications process that they possess the equivalent qualifications for RIBA/ARB Parts I and II. Only then will a graduate of this programme be able to then apply for registration
with ARB and membership of the RIBA.

International applicants who do not demonstrate they possess the equivalent qualifications for RIBA/ARB Parts I and II may be permitted to undertake the programme for personal professional development purposes only. Applicants for whom English is not their first language would normally require either: an IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in each individual element

EDUCATIONAL AIMS OF PROGRAMME

This programme meets the requirements of the RIBA, ARB and EU Directive 85/334 to qualify as an Architect under the 1997 Architects Act. The main aims are:

To transpose into practice the academic professional studies input provided at Parts 1 and 2.

To provide a wider understanding of the full responsibility of the architect in contractual, administrational, managerial, legal and procedural aspects of professional life.

To engender a high level of competence commensurate with the professional accountability of the architect, and an appreciation of the role of the architect in society and the construction industry.

To instill ethical attitudes and responses.

To impact a concept of professional judgement with integrity and trust.

To inculcate the attitude towards continuing professional development as an on-going and essential requirement for the architect.
