Criteria for Admissions

Entrants other than those of mature age (i.e. not less than 21 years of age on October 1 of the proposed year of entry), must satisfy the General University Entrance Requirements and meet any specific entry requirements for this pathway go to http://www.qub.ac.uk/ado/. Details of specific entry requirements may be obtained from the Academic Registry Office in Stranmillis University College.

The minimum entry requirement: Normally BCC at A Level or equivalent if entry is from UCAS into Stage 1.

A’ level subjects to include: Physical Education or Sports Studies or Biology or Home Economics.

VCE A Levels: To include Leisure & Recreation / Health & Social Care 12-unit award +

GCSE: Minimum C in Maths, English & Science.

Access: 65% average.

Other Factors: GCSE Profile, Personal Statement, Reference, Relevant
Structured Experience.

To provide a high quality education for students in dimensions of health, physical activity and sport, which provides opportunities for them to realise their potential to the highest possible extent within the timescale available to them for study;

To provide opportunities for a balanced and coherent education in health, physical activity and sport while retaining students' right to choose their modules flexibly according to their aptitudes and interests;

On the completion of this course successful students will be able to:

Exercise analytical, critical and problem solving skills in the context of the theories within the discipline, employ methods of enquiry, evaluate applications and interventions;

In year one there is a focus on creating a knowledge base in students with a progressive shift towards critical evaluation of sources in years two and three. Students are frequently required to review aspects of both practice and theory.
