Aim:  This course aims to help staff gain a better understanding of Asperger’s Syndrome.

Content:

With greater awareness and improved diagnosis the number of individuals receiving a diagnosis of Asperger’s Syndrome is on the increase.  A direct consequence of this has been an increase in the number of students diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome coming into the University system.  What are the implications of this for those of us who work within third level education?  This session will address this question and in doing so consider the characteristics of this complex developmental disorder and its implications for teaching and learning.  Positive strategies for intervention and support to help those with Asperger’s Syndrome to fulfill their full potential will be presented.
