The next Welcome and Orientation Schedule can be viewed here in September 2013

At the start of each semester the University holds a Welcome and Orientation programme for our new international students.  The Welcome and Orientation Sept 2010programme includes lots of useful and interesting sessions and exciting activities to help you make new friends and get settled in to life at Queen's.

Here is a sample of what it is about:

  • How to speak 'Belfast' - learn about local slang.
  • Cultural Adjustment - making the most of differences.
  • Studying at Queen's - preparing you for a different academic experience.
  • Accommodation - both University and private sector.  Learn about how housing contracts work, what is expected of you, and how to make sure you get the best value for money!
  • Keeping healthy - from local food to fitness facilities and doctors.
  • Having fun! - join in the busy programme of social events for international students.

Welcome and Orientation for the first semester of the 2013 / 2014 academic year will take place from 16th-22nd September 2013.  Attendance on the International Welcome and Orientation programme is compulsory, so please ensure that you arrive on time to attend the programme so that you get the best possible start to your studies!

The Meet and Greet service

At the beginning of each term we send our Meet and Greet team to the two Belfast airports to meet new students and take them back to the University to help them settle in.  The Meet and Greet service will be available at both Belfast airports on Monday 16th and Tuesday17th September 2013, so if you would like to take advantage of this service, please ensure to arrive in Belfast on this date.

We will update this page with further information soon, so please check back for lots of information, or join us on Facebook for regular updates.

Right to Study checks for non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals

If you are a non-EU/EEA/Swiss national, the University is required to check your immigration documents to ensure that you have correct immigration permission to study at Queen's before you can enrol.  All non-EU/EEA/Swiss students must present their passport and visa or other immigration permission to International Student Support, who will take a photocopy and check your right to study.  This process is normally carried out during International Welcome and Orientation.  It is very important that you get the correct immigration permission to study at Queen's.  For more information about immigration, please see our Visas and Immigration section, read our FAQ section, or contact us at iss@qub.ac.uk.

Please note, if you have an ATAS certificate, you must provide a copy of this to International Student Support when your Right to Study check is being carried out.
