The Loan Process-Queen's University

If you would like to apply for US Federal Loans then you must firstly establish your eligibility by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You must do this online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. When completing your FAFSA, you must list Queen's University Belfast as your school.  Our school code is G22736.

  • Once you have submitted your FAFSA, this will produce an Institutional Student Information Report (ISIR).  We need this document to determine your loan eligibility.
  • If you have listed Queen's as your school, your ISIR should be sent to us automatically by the US Department of Education.  However, we recommend that you email us at usloans@qub.ac.uk to confirm that you have submitted your FAFSA.
  • Once we have determined your loan eligibility we will be able to create a cost of attendance for your programme. This will be emailed to you along with the following forms;

FLA1: This is where you confirm your course details, tuition fees and scholarship information

FLA2: This sets out your loans eligibility and provides information on ‘next steps’ to progress your application. You must confirm the amounts you wish to borrow in this form.

  • In due course, when you have completed and returned both forms and carried out the relevant ‘next steps’ indicated in the FLA2 form, we will then be in a position to originate and activate your loans.

Please use the checklist below to make sure you have completed all the relevant steps and we are happy to help if you are having any problems.
