The University recognises that, due to the nature of external funding such as research grants, there will be an ongoing need for research staff to be appointed on a fixed-term basis. In circumstances where a fixed-term contract is not being extended and, in accordance with the redundancy procedures for all categories of staff, the University has and will continue to make every attempt to re-deploy the member(s) of staff concerned in accordance with the principles contained within the Research Careers Initiative. Clearly, this is more difficult where research staff, in particular, have specialised skills. The Personnel Office and research processes websites provide information to assist with the procedures associated fixed-term contract employment.
