The University recognises that, due to the nature of external funding such as research grants, there will be an ongoing need for research staff to be appointed on a fixed-term basis. In circumstances where a fixed-term contract is not being extended and, in accordance with the redundancy procedures for all categories of staff, the University has and will continue to make every attempt to re-deploy the member(s) of staff concerned in accordance with the principles contained within the Research Careers Initiative. Clearly, this is more difficult where research staff, in particular, have specialised skills.
