Research Equipment Sharing Database
Promoting the Sharing of Research Equipment
In response to the Wakeham Review, Research Councils (RCUK) have introduced a range of changes to funding for research grants. The most far-reaching changes to RCUK research funding apply to equipment including the need for any application for new equipment over £10,000 to demonstrate that there is no similar equipment within the University that could be used.
In response to this requirement and to improve the utilisation and efficiency of our asset base, the Finance Directorate in conjunction with Information Services, has developed an online searchable database of all relevant equipment. Access to this new facility is now available to all academic staff, via Queen’s Online, under the ‘Services’/’Research’/’Research Equipment Sharing Database’ menu.
Feedback from a number of users has been very positive and the database should provide a quick and easy way of determining if equipment requirements can be met from elsewhere in the University.
