The University has been conferred with the first Silver Athena SWAN University award. No other University has attained this level of excellence under the Swan Scheme.

In addition, the school of Nursing and Midwifery has been awarded silver status bringing to eight the total number of SET schools at Silver level. These are as follows:

• Biological Sciences
• Psychology
• Geography, Archaeology and Palaeoecology
• Planning, Architecture and Civil Engineering
• Chemistry and Chemical Engineering
• Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
• Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
• Nursing and Midwifery

The schools of Pharmacy and Maths and Physics are currently holding bronze status.

In conferring the silver award to the University, Athena Swan described Queens as a, “National leader in gender-equitable employment practices”.
