Constitution of Appointments Panels for Academic-related and Support Staff Governed by Statute XIII

Membership of the Appointments Panels should, as far as possible, be representative of the diversity of the Northern Ireland Community.   

It is recommended that Panels be constituted as follows:

Appointment of Academic-Related Staff

The Appointments Panel shall consist of:

  • Chair, who will normally be the Head of School/Director of Administrative area or nominee;
  • Two other members of Line Management;
  • One member drawn from another Directorate/Academic area;
  • Member of the Personnel Department, if appropriate; and
  • External Assessor, if appropriate, (at interview only).

Appointment of Support Staff

The Appointments Panel shall consist of:

  • Chair, who will normally be the Head of School/Director of Administrative area or nominee;
  • Relevant Supervisor;
  • One member drawn from another Directorate/Academic area; and
  • Member of the Personnel Department, if appropriate.

Appointment of Short-Term Temporary Staff

The Appointments Panel shall consist of:

  • Chair, who will normally be the Head of School/Director of Administrative area or nominee;
  • Relevant Supervisor; and
  • Member of the Personnel Department, if appropriate.

In circumstances when a Personnel Officer is not required to serve as a Panel member, the third member should be drawn from an area not associated with the vacancy.
