This page provides step by step information on how to configure recent web browsers.  Step by step information is also available for the configuration of older browsers.

Note: Users should configure their browsers to use the cache using the automatic proxy configuration script at http://www.qub.ac.uk/proxy.pac.

The web browsers are listed as follows:

• Internet Explorer 6 (&5)
• Mozilla and Firefox
• Internet Explorer (Older Versions)
• Netscape (Version 4 and Older)

Internet Explorer (version 5 and 6) Configuration

IE Configuration Step 1

From the Tools Section on the upper toolbar open {click on} the section called "Internet Options".

The window on the right should be displayed. In this window there is a row of Tabs/Buttons across the top, select {click on} the Tab labelled Connections.

The window should change to that displayed below.

IE Configuration Step 2

In the window shown on the right click on the button labelled LAN settings.

IE Configuration Step 3

The window to the right should be displayed, complete it as shown and select ok.

Mozilla/Firefox Configuration

There are a number of versions of Mozilla and Firefox but all should support a configuration similar to that shown below. If you experience problems please contact the IT Helpdesk, please specify exactly which browser, including version number, you are using.

Mozilla Configuration

From the upper toolbar select the Edit menu and click on the Preferences button.

Click on the "+" beside Advanced and then click on the "Proxies" button.

The window to the right should be displayed. Complete it as shown and click "Ok".
