Securing your Computer
In February 2004 the MyDoom virus removed files stored on local PCs and central servers. While all of the data on central servers was restored, one staff member, who stored their files on their PC, lost all those files and had no means of recovery.
All computers are vulnerable to computer viruses and worms, which can potentially cause a lot of damage not only to your own computer, but also to the University network. To help prevent this, it is essential that all computers have anti-virus software installed and are kept up to date with the latest Windows updates.
Information Services also recommends additional security measures, relating to passwords, file storage and backup, junk email (spam), pop up windows etc.
Note: Further details on security, including helpful advice on securing your home computer, is available in the 'Security and Anti-Virus' section in IT Services.
