Windows 7 (using SecureW2)

Important Note: You should ensure you have up-to-date anti-virus software, a personal firewall and also applied the latest system patches to your notebook computer (laptop), before using the Queen's Wireless Network.  Support is available. 

To set-up the SecureW2 wireless service on your Windows 7 notebook, follow the steps below or download the 2 page flyer for easy to follow instructions.  A full manual (including troubleshooting) is also available.  Please read the disclaimer before you begin.


Step 1: Download the software

- Open the Internet and in the Address Bar, type in the following address:

http://www.qub.ac.uk/netserv/dar/SecureW2-QUBinstall.exe

- Choose Save.  A Save As dialogue box will appear.

- Choose where you would like to save the file e.g. USB pen (memory stick).

- Click Save.  A Download Complete dialogue box will appear.

- The download to your USB pen (memory stick) is complete, so choose Close.

Step 2: Install the software on to your notebook computer (laptop) 
 
- Insert your USB pen (memory stick) into your notebook computer.  Alternatively if you are installing from a CD, place the CD into the CD-Rom drive.  

- Open the USB pen (memory stick), or the CD and double click on the SecureW2 icon.  A Security Warning may appear – asking 'do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?'  Choose Yes.  SecureW2 will begin to install on your notebook computer. 

- You will receive a prompt to choose a language - click OK to choose English.

Windows Set-Up

- Click Next to display the License Agreement for the wireless software.  

- Click I Agree to accept the terms under the License Agreement.

- Ensure TTLS 4.1.0 is selected and click Install.

- Ensure Reboot Now is selected and click Finish to reboot and complete the installation of the wireless software on to your notebook computer.

Step 3: Start using the Queen’s Wireless Network

- Ensure that you are in a wireless network area.  

When you are in a wireless network area – you should see a wireless information balloon on the computer desktop, emerging from the Windows Taskbar (on the right hand side at the bottom of the screen).  This indicates that a wireless service is available.

Note: It may take 30 seconds or so after rebooting your laptop before this balloon is displayed.    

If the installation of the wireless software was successful, the balloon will indicate that additional information is required.
 
- Click on the wireless information balloon to open the log-in window.

SecureW2 Login

- Enter your username (student or staff number) and password and click OKNote: Leave the Domain field blank.

You should now be connected to the Queen’s Wireless Network.  Welcome! Try opening the Internet on your notebook computer to confirm the connection.
