Wireless (for Mac Snow Leopard)

Important Note: You should ensure you have up-to-date anti-virus software, a personal firewall and also applied the latest system patches to your Apple Mac, before using the Queen's Wireless Network.  Support is available.

To set-up the wireless service on your Apple Macintosh Snow Leopard OSX 10.6, follow the steps below or download the 2 page flyer for easy to follow instructions.  A full manual (including troubleshooting) is also available, as well as a useful step by step video showing how to set up Queen's wireless on a MacBook Air.  Please read the disclaimer before you begin.

- Select the Apple network connection icon at the top of your screen. Then select Open Network Preferences.

- Click on the Advanced button.

- Click on the + symbol

- Click on Show Networks.

- Select qub_sec and enter in your Username (staff/student number) and Password.  Keep 802.1x as Automatic and then click Add.

- Select the TCP/IP tab at the top of the screen and turn off IPv6.

- Select the 802.1X tab at the top of the screen, click on the + symbol and select Add User Profile.

- Name the User Profile qub_sec, then fill in the details as shown below.

- Click on Configure… as shown in the screen above.

- In TTLS Inner Authentication, choose PAP and then click OK.

- Select qub_sec from the Wireless Network drop down list and change the Security Type to WPA Enterprise and click OK.

- Now back on the main screen, click on Apply and then click on Turn AirPort Off.  Wait a few seconds and Turn AirPort On again.

- You may be asked to enter your Username and Password again.  If not, then you may be asked to accept the certificate.  Do this and then enter your Apple Macintosh password.

You should now be connected to the wireless at Queens, as shown in the screen below.  If not, try turning off and on your wireless again.  If you are still having problems please contact the Information Services Helpdesk at advisory@qub.ac.uk for further advice.
