Making a Request

Staff and Research Students

Requests can be placed online for material not held by the Library. You can do this in two ways:

  • using 'Request an Inter-Library loan' on the QCat Library Catalogue
  • clicking 'QConnect' and then 'Inter-Library loan' when carrying out an article search

Always check the QCat Library Catalogue to make sure that the item you require is not already held in the Library before making a request.

Please ensure when completing the form that the details are as full and accurate as possible. Requests cannot be taken by telephone or email.

An electronic voucher is automatically deducted from your School’s allocation for each request made. Schools must still manage ILL usage within their overall annual allocation.

Once received by the Library, an ILL request will be actioned within 3 working days.

The default method of delivery for journal articles is via British Library DRM Lite. Items requested this way are normally emailed to you within 48 hours. Before you can view your article you will need to have registered for this service with The British Library. Registering is free, just takes a few minutes and will only need to be done the first time. Once you have registered, you can use your username and password to access articles that have been supplied to you. You can register at any time by clicking here.

Taught Postgraduate Students (Masters), Undergraduates and Teaching Assistants

If the book or article you require is not available in the Library, complete one of the following forms:

Book Request Form [pdf] [Word]
Article Request Form [pdf] [Word]

Please ensure that the book or article details you enter are as full and accurate as possible. You will also need to obtain an authorising signature from your School Office.

Completed request forms should be handed, or posted, to the Queen's library you normally use.
