Returning, Renewing and Recalled Items
You can return books at the Borrower Services Desk in any Queen's library. You can also use the ground floor self-service returns stations at the Borrower Services Desk in The McClay Library or at the self-service issue and return station in the Biomedical Library.
You may also return items by post, but you remain responsible for them until they have reached the Library. The Library will not take any responsibility for items lost in the post. Please also be aware of the due date when returning items in this way as fines will still be imposed on late returns.
There are three ways to renew Standard / 1 week loan items:
- Via My Account on Queen’s Online or QCat Discover
- In person at the Self-Service Points or at the Borrower Services Desks
- By phone - see Contacting the Library
The following items may not be renewed:
If you have an item on loan which has been requested by another borrower, we will contact you and ask you to return it to the library. We will give you one week from the date of this communication to return it, after which the item will become overdue. Please note recalled items that become overdue incur a higher rate of fine.
All standard and 1 week loan items are subject to recall at any time, including during vacations.
Please note that emails are sent to all Queen's staff and students reminding them of approaching due or return dates. Emails are also sent to notify library users that materal is overdue, or to request the return of material which is in demand by another reader. Library notices for Queen's staff and students are delivered to university email accounts.
