US-Ireland R&D Partnership Programme
The “US-Ireland R&D Partnership” launched in July 2006, is a unique initiative involving funding agencies across three jurisdictions: United States of America, Republic of Ireland & Northern Ireland.
The Government Departments and Agencies across the three jurisdictions supporting this initiative are:-
- Northern Ireland – Department for Employment and Learning, Invest NI and the Health and Social Care (HSC) R&D Division of the Public Health Agency
- Republic of Ireland – Science Foundation Ireland (SFI)
- United States of America – National Science Foundation (NSF) and National Institutes of Health (NIH)
The overall goal of the Partnership is to increase the level of collaborative R&D amongst researchers and industry professionals across the three jurisdictions. The Partnership achieves its goals through tri-partite research projects in which the funding agencies fund the elements of research undertaken in their own jurisdiction. Importantly, the Partnership must add significant value to each research programme above that is not achievable by the PI in each jurisdiction working alone, supported only by national funding.
The current focus of the US-Ireland R&D Partnership Programme is on the following five thematic areas:
- Sensors & Sensor Networks
- Nanoscale Science and Engineering
- Telecommunications
- Energy & Sustainability
- Health
For proposal submissions to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for the Health theme, please refer to the US-Ireland Call for Submission of Tri-Partite Proposals to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on the DEL website - US -Ireland R&D Partnership
For proposal submissions to theNational Science Foundation (NSF) for the Sensors & Sensor Networks, Nanoscale Science & Engineering, Telecommunications, and Energy & Sustainability themes, please refer to the US-Ireland Call for Submission of Tripartite Proposals to the National Science Foundation (NSF) on the SFI website - US Ireland R&D Partnership
For queries regarding the US-Ireland Partnership Programme please contact your Research Development Manager.
If you are an eligible applicant and are interested in finding a suitable RoI collaborator, please e-mail Wendy McLoone in the first instance with your contact details, a brief description of the area of your proposed research and outline details of the expertise you are seeking from the RoI PI. We will then liaise with Research Support Offices in the various RoI Universities to help you find, and subsequently facilitate contact with, an appropriate RoI PI.
