How do I add new publications to my Pure records

On your ‘Personal overview’ page, you can add new Research outputs to your Pure record by clicking on the ‘Add new’ (green) button at the top right corner of the page.

There are four ways to add new publications in Pure, as follows:

(1) Manually: click on ‘Research output’ and then click ‘Create from template’ (located underneath the button ‘Research output’). A list of Research output types will appear in the middle of the page. Select your chosen output type and a list of relevant templates will be displayed.

Hover over your chosen template and click ‘Choose’. Fill in as much information as possible - items marked with a red asterisk must be completed.

Please click ‘Save’ after you make any changes.

(2) From an online source: click on ‘Import from an online source’ (located underneath the button ‘Create from template’). In the displayed search box, enter the name of the author, and / or organisation name (e.g. Queen’s University of Belfast), as accurately as possible into the relevant search fields. You can use the publication year fields to limit your search. Click the search button and browse through the search results to locate your publications.

Click the ‘import’ button next to a publication you wish to import. A list of the publication’s authors and possible matches of internal authors in Pure is provided to make it possible to match any internal authors to the publication. Click the ‘import’ button to transfer the publication to your Pure profile. Each record must be imported individually to ensure the necessary manual checks are made between authors and persons in Pure.

  • During the import stage, the main editing window will open. Fields marked with a red asterisk (*) are required and must be filled out. The import process should complete these automatically.
  • However, if necessary, you can add to or edit the information that has been imported.
  • Check each author to ensure they are matched correctly. If an author has been matched incorrectly as internal, you can change them to external by clicking on the arrow next to their name and selecting the correct option from the drop-down list.
  • Please click ‘Save’ after you make any changes.

(3) From a file: click on ‘Importing from a file’ (located underneath the button ‘Create from template’). Either browse for the relevant Bibtext or RIS file (reference codes) and click ‘Import’, or copy and paste the relevant code into the text box and click ‘Import’. Please click ‘Save’ after you make any changes.

(4) From the 'automated search' of publications: Pure automatically scans journals held within online sources to identify publications which are authored by QUB researchers which have Pure accounts. To establish this function in Pure, see the following question, How do set up an 'Automated Search' for publications?

If possible, add publications from an online source, from a file or from the automatic scan as these methods will automatically provide full and accurate information on each research output).
