InnovateHer
InnovateHer' is a unique extra-curricular enterprise support programme for female students which will run for the first time during 2011-12. The programme seeks to bring female QUB students together over a course of 10 sessions where they will work in cross disciplinary teams to develop viable business ideas and business plans. The students will have the opportunity to meet a number of successful female entrepreneurs and business women and learn from their business experiences. Two site visits to local businesses will also be incorporated in the programme. The students will have the opportunity to learn from and network with professionals from marketing, finance, intellectual property, idea generation and business planning and development. This programme gives students the opportunity to develop their skills in creative thinking, presentation, teamwork, business expertise and entrepreneurship. The programme culminates in t 'Dragon's Den' business pitch competition with prizes for the best business plan and best business pitch.
The key objectives of the 'InnovateHer' programme are as follows:
- Encourage and inspire female students to consider starting their own businesses as a viable option during their career
- Develop and nurture key transferable skills within the group of students. Skills include presentation, negotiation, creative thinking, persuasion, team work, problem-solving, networking and communication.
- Understanding and knowledge of the key areas involved in starting a business such as business planning, marketing, PR, market research, legal issues, finance and innovation
