Things to do in Belfast
Belfast City Hall

  • Why not visit the Ulster Museum? This recently renovated building houses an Egyptian Mummy and a fascinating exhibition on the Troubles and best of all is free!!

  • The bus tours run in the City Centre are very interesting even for home students as Belfast’s colourful history is explained in a light-hearted way. The best deals can be obtained through the Belfast Welcome Centre outlet in Donegall Place. The Black Taxi tours of the city are also widely praised.

  • Why not stray away from the usual student haunts and discover new and exciting social spots such as the Cathedral Quarter, home to some of the oldest establishments in Belfast.

  • Queen’s Student Union and the Empire in Botanic Avenue run some of the most successful comedy nights in Belfast and are right on your doorstep. Such big names as Ed Byrne and Kevin Bridges have been attracted to these nights which are usually hosted by the Panel’s and the Blame Game’s Colin Murphy. These are also good value nights out at only £6 admission.

  • The QFT is home to some of the best drama productions in Belfast and are very competitively priced. See the website for more information (http://www.queensfilmtheatre.com/). The recently reopened Lyric Theatre is also a big attraction for arts lovers.

  • Botanic Avenue is home to many different cuisines from around the world. Why not swap your fish and chips for a Sushi Train in Sakura or a burrito in Boojum?!

  • The Empire venue in Botanic Avenue hosts some eclectic nights such a popular blues night on a Thursday and Salsa night on a Friday; both events are free to all. Small pubs such as Auntie Annie’s and Filthy McNasty’s host some excellent local music and acoustic nights.

  • Look out during the year for events such as the Belfast Film Festival, the Belfast Festival at Queen’s and the Coors Light Festival. These events are open to the public and are a great way to see local bands and experience local culture: why not take that someone special?!

  • The Student Union hosts weekly cheap club nights through the semester, such as Twisted and Connected which feature top-40 music and great drink offers. The Speakeasy on a Friday plays alternative music. There is a hugely popular pub-quiz on a Wednesday afternoon in the Bunatee. The Student Union operates a free bus, on some club nights, which takes students back to Elms Accommodation, Stranmillis and the Holylands. Make sure to avail of this service to get home safe.
