What can I do to Go Further?

There are lots of employability-enhancing activities available through QUB.  Here are a few suggestions that would be of particular interest to students of these degree programmes.

Any year:

Level 1:

  • Look for summer work – a number of summer internships will be advertised on MyFuture after Easter.
  • Start to research opportunities for summer and year out placement at relevant job websites
  • Participate in a speed mentoring night (November and February)
  • Interested in Teaching? Teach First run a Taster Programme for Level 1 students
  • Interested in Professional Services or Banking and Finance? Some companies run Insight” schemes for first year students  e.g. Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwCBank of EnglandBarclaysCiti
  • Plus above opportunities for any year

Level 2 / Penultimate Year:

Make sure your CV is up to date and you are familiar with recruitment and selection processes. Attend careers workshops and get one to one support by booking a careers consultation at MyFuture

Look for relevant work experience:

Internship opportunities related to Pharmacy

  • Research opportunities for summer and year out placement at relevant job websites and ABPI Careers website.
  • Apply early for summer and year out placements. Many companies have early applications deadlines in the autumn.
  • Consider other opportunities such as;
  • Are you clear about which career option you want to follow?  Participate in the Alumni Career Mentoring Scheme.

Internship opportunities for any degree discipline

Many large companies in other sectors offer year-long placements and summer internships to students of any degree discipline. MyFuture, Ratemyplacement, Prospects, Targetjobs and Gradcracker are useful sites for finding these. Many of the deadlines are set around December so it’s best to start applying in autumn.

Level 3 / Final Year UG/PGT:

  • Make sure your CV is up to date and you are familiar with recruitment and selection processes

  • Apply early for graduate schemes and / or postgraduate study. Many companies have early applications deadlines in the autumn. Keep up to date at MyFuture
