What have you done in addition to your degree to enhance your employability?

Placement
I carried out a 12month placement with the Dow Chemical Company in Belfast where I was delegated various roles and responsibilities:

-          5S Chair Woman
-          Stakeholder Communication Marketing Strategy Coordinator
-          Communications focal point for the Global Sustainability Packaging Council in Dow
-          Major contributor in the design and marketing of Dow’s new Intranet site
-          Major contributor in the design and marketing of Dow’s new Intranet site

Athletics
I was awarded an Ulster Sports Bursary with Queens University in 2012 for my sporting achievements.  I was also the Queens Club Secretary.

Code First Girls QUB
I was awarded a place on this unique course that offers training around coding and technological talent recruitment.  At the end of this course, I will be able to create a front-end website for my business idea.

Fundamentals of Trading and Investment
I undertook a 3-day course in Riddel Hall gaining foundation knowledge necessary to trade and invest and understand financial markets. I also got the chance to use Bloomberg Terminals. 

Innovate Her
I was awarded a place on this extra–curricular enterprise support programme where my business partner and I had to come up with a business idea.  This involved working as a team, carrying out extensive market research and pitching our idea to a group of panelists specialized in the field of Entrepreneurship.

 

Making use of Careers, Employability and Skills

I have used Careers, Employability and Skills on numerous occasions.  They helped with my CV and prepared me for graduate interviews.  The superior guidance and help enabled me to secure a graduate offer with KPMG.I have used Careers, Employability and Skills on numerous occasions.  They helped with my CV and prepared me for graduate interviews.  The superior guidance and help enabled me to secure a graduate offer with KPMG.

 

Advice for other Queen's students

If you have the chance, definitely avail of Careers, Employability and Skills.  Everyone within the student guidance centre are extremely helpful and it will benefit you with your progression throughout university.
