However, this will take place on the understanding that it is outside the official scheme. |
Student Mentees: General Expectations
The scheme will be open to undergraduates who are in Level 2 or above. The mentor will make the initial contact but the student mentee will be expected to be reliable and proactive in replying to them. This will include keeping the mentor updated on any relevant revisions in their plans, or developments in their employability profile, as the mentoring sessions progress. Click here for a list of topics that would typically be discussed during an alumni career mentoring session.
Alumni Career Mentors will typically have experience in one, or more, of the following areas (most of which are "any discipline" graduate job roles):
- Management, counsultancy or leadership role within a service or manufacturing company/organisation
- Human Resources
- Marketing and PR
- Accountancy
- Financial Services
- Science, Environment, Engineering or Construction
- Security Services (including IT security)
- Creative media
Student Mentees: Training Workshop
After your application is received, you will be asked to attend a one hour induction workshop. It will be necessary to complete this before the matching phase can take place (mentors also need to undertake training prior to matching). Once you are successfully matched with an Alumni Career Mentor, you will be introduced to each other via an email from Careers, Employability and Skills.
Alumni Career Mentoring and Degree Plus
Students who have participated in the scheme, in full, can combine this with other experience to apply for Degree Plus accreditation through Route B. A good example of this is where, as a result of the discussions with the alumni mentor, a student decides to do some further career related activities which they also use to evidence their Route B application.
