Three top tips for student life at Queen's:
My first piece of advice would be to get involved with a club or society that appeals to you. This way you can pursue something which interests you and meet a lot of new people. I got involved in the Mountaineering club and have had the opportunity to go on various trips around the country hiking mountains and having a great time!!
My second piece of advice would be to get involved with a volunteering programme. Again, this is a great opportunity to meet new people and do something positive whilst also gaining new skills and experience. I was fortunate enough to get involved with the "Open Your Mind" project to help raise awareness of mental health issues that students come across. I was able to take part in accredited training in mental health topics and mentoring and also plan various campaigning events across Northern Ireland.
My last piece of advice is to take care of yourself. There are a lot of freedoms and opportunities available at Queens and it’s easy to get overwhelmed at times. If you’re struggling with academic, finance, housing or mental health problems there is support available and it’s important to reach out and use it when you most need it.
