Mentor Testimonials

"Overall mentoring has been a very rewarding experience. I found it beneficial when I was a mentee and even more rewarding when I was a mentor. I have gained new teamwork skills, time management skills, leadership qualities and the confidence to function in situations I’ve never experienced before. Before mentoring, I avoided anything to do with group work. I didn’t like having to speak out when I didn’t know anyone but due to mentoring with the mentees, meeting with other mentors and initially from the training, my whole perspective has changed. These are skills and attitudes that won’t diminish now that mentoring is nearing the end, they can be taken from university and implemented into a career and hopefully make me a more desirable employee. I am very grateful for the experience and couldn’t recommend it highly enough to other students."

“The amount of responsibility we were given made me more confident in dealing with people!"

“[Being a mentor] allowed me to feel more involved in the day-to-day life of the School.”

"Getting involved in the mentoring scheme was a fantasically rewarding experience.  I really enoyed helping new first year  students and met some great friends in the process."

"I have learned a lot during my past year as a mentor. I have no regrets whatsoever in my decision to join the mentoring scheme and the experience has been invaluable to me."

"During my mentor training I learned a great deal about both myself and about being a mentor. I would consider myself as quiet and shy, but the training taught me that just because I’m quiet doesn’t mean I can’t help … The training was incredibly constructive and I couldn’t have helped students as well without it."

"I would strongly encourage anyone who has the opportunity to become a peer mentor to grasp it, not just to put on the CV, but for the real life lessons that are learnt."
