Mature Students Academic and Personal Development Programme

Introduction

The aim of this programme is to help you make the most of your academic experience at Queen’s University, help you increase awareness of your strengths, and help you develop and enhance key academic skills.

The flexibility of the programme allows you to opt into components that you have identified as being particularly relevant. Alternatively, you can choose to complete the whole programme and gain an Academic and Personal Development Award which can, if you choose, contribute to the achievement of Degree Plus (http://go.qub.ac.uk/degreeplus).
The programme, which has a strong focus on practical outcomes, consists of workshops and one-to-one meetings with Learning Development Tutors.

Semester 1

Personal Development: Myers Briggs Personality Type

(One-to-one session and optional small group workshop)

Participants will complete the Myers Briggs Personality Type questionnaire, the most widely used personality type tool. Awareness of your personality type will give you insights into how you prefer to study, handle stress and manage time. This greater self-awareness will help you for the year ahead.

You will have the opportunity to arrange a number of one-to-one meetings to discuss your personality type and to relate this to aspects of independent study.

Lunchtime Forums and Academic Tips (Free lunch provided)

Lunch will be followed by a short presentation from a Learning Development Tutor or other facilitator who will offer tips and advice on the week’s topic.
