Introduction

The Planning (Northern Ireland) Order 1991 contains the principle planning law for Northern Ireland and places a general duty on the Department of Environment (DOE) to formulate and co-ordinate policy for development of land and the planning of that development.

The Planning Reform (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 makes provision for the DOE to reform and improve planning processes while also enhancing transparency and community involvement in the planning system.
