Dr William J V Neill is Postgraduate
Course
Co-ordinator and Reader in Environmental Planning. He holds a Masters in Urban
Planning from the University of Michigan accredited by the American Institute
of Certified Planners and a PhD in Urban and Regional Planning from
the University of Nottingham. He was formerly Lecturer in Urban Planning at the
University of Manchester and worked for many years as a planner in the 1970s
& 1980s in the Office of Business and Community Development with State of Michigan
USA. His research interests
include the governance
and planning on multi-cultural cities pursued in collaboration with the European
Academy of the Urban Environment in Berlin, the spatiality of memory and identity
and the representation of the city and city marketing. He is a member of the
General Assembly of the Royal Town Planning Institute and the International Committee
of the Institute and a steering group member of Groundwork (NI). Recent publications
include Urban Planning and Cultural
Inclusion (ed. with Hans-Uve Schwedler), Palgrave, MacMillan, 2001 and Urban
Planning and Cultural Identity, Routledge, 2004.
