Gowns

Correct academic costume, gown and hood, is compulsory for all graduands who attend University ceremonial events.

Each degree discipline of Queen's has been assigned an associated hood colour. View photographic details of academic costume and the colour associated with each subject discipline. This will ensure you receive the correct costume from the Gown Store before attending a graduation ceremony and assist you in how it should be worn on the day.

Please take time to check that the colour of your academic costume is correct.

How to wear your hood:

Men may wear the front band of the hood under the tie or pinned not more than eight inches below the neck.
Women may wear the front band at the neck or pinned not more than eight inches below the neck.

Please note: Any graduand who is not appropriately dressed, or who is not wearing the hood in the approved manner, will not be admitted to the ceremony.

Collecting Your Gown

You must collect your gown from Level 1 of the Administration Building (map) after collecting your tickets from the Student Guidance Centre and produce the reference page stamped by the Student Income and Finance Department or proof of payment via the web.

Return of Gowns

Gowns must be returned to the Gown Store by the time specified on your reference page. A late return will be charged an additional fee of £150. A failed return will be charged an additional fee of £300.
