ASH Action on Smoking and Health Northern Ireland
Project Description
A multisectoral committee organised by the Ulster Cancer Foundation to prevent tobacco related disease in N.Ireland. Activities include lobbying, education,and training. Successes include the abolition of the oral tobacco "Skoal Bandits" from sale in N. Ireland 1986, 23 successful annual no smoking days, the introduction of new legislation 1992- "Children and young people(protection from tobacco)" order, with Uk colleagues lobbied successfully for white paper "smoking kills" which led to many protective meassures and the N. Ireland 5 year tobacco action Plan. The most recent success was the ministerial decision to ban tobacco in the workplace from April 2007 in N. Ireland.
